Is chasing rakeback hindering me? December 30, 2006

You’re probably wondering WTF that title is all about so I shall explain! As you’ve probbaly read in previous posts my laptop is about 4 years old and wasn’t the greatest thing in the world when it was new! Because of the resolution etc I can only run 1 table without having horrendous overlap which is definitely -EV! At my current site, Full Tilt, I get 27% of my rakeback but can only realistically play 1 table comfortably and keep my eye on the action but at somewhere like Poker Stars I can play 4 on one screen and keep up with things due to there resizeable tables. I believe that by playing at Stars I can build my bankroll quicker than staying at a site where I get rakeback. Here’s some maths for you!
I believe I can hit 10PTBB/100 at 6-max NL10 on Full Tilt. This equates to $0.02 per hand. Say 80 hands an hour, this means I should be earning around $1.60 per hour played. 27% rakeback adds around 1PTBB/hour to your win rate (saw this posted on 2+2 somewhere) so this should take my potential earn rate to $1.80/hour.
Now say I play at Stars where I can play 4 tables and therefore hit around 300 hands an hour. My earn rate may drop to say 6PTBB/100 which is $0.012 per hand but because of the increase of hands my win rate should be around $3.60 per hour, twice what it would be at Full Tilt! Add to this that Stars currently has a 25% reload bonus which at 6-max NL10 clears at around $0.40/hour, this adds $1.60 per hour so potentially I could be hitting $5.20/hour compared to the $1.80 at Full Tilt!
With this in mind I have withdrawn from Full Tilt and put my bankroll into Poker Stars. My total online roll is now $497.14 but I may have to dip into this in the New Year as my spending has gone a little crazy once more! I plan to play 4 tables of 6-max NL10 until I hit $625 where I will make the jump to NL25. Once I earn enough cash to treat myself to a new setup I’ll probably return to Full Tilt or a similar site and multitable and get rakeback!
Good luck at those tables!
f stars!
that is all…
Makes sense . . . try for a while & check yr stats, I guess, then decide if 4-tabling is really more profitable. I know I can’t handle more than 2 at once before my win rate takes a hit — so I stopped tryin’.
Happy New Year, bud.
Def makes sense to play at stars if you can only 1 table at http://FTP. At 100nl 4-tabling I add about $5-6 to my hourly winrate from RB at FTP though. Once you get a higher resolution set up, it is definitely worth it to have RB.
why not buy a new laptop or PC, they are quite cheap these days and you can easily multitable on them. For a hundred or so can get extra monitor and play up to 8 talbes if you like! Also, instead of playing FT with only 27% RB why not play at other easy sites with more RB like pokerpanthers.co.uk, 60% rakeback.
PS i have found to be toughest cash game site, and ladbrokes.

Just a quick note, there’s a FPP (frequent player points) Store at Pokerstars. If you reach Goldstar status, you can buy amazon gift vouchers with those FPPs and sell them on eBay.
The last week, I spent about 15 hours 4-tabling NL50 and NL100 and earned FPPs worth €100 in amazon.de vouchers (=$137). A €25 voucher sells for about €22.40 on eBay.
I don’t know if it’s worth it compared to your rakeack deal, but I’m fine with it.
why dont you build a desktop pc. install about 6 graphics cards and buy 6 flat screen monitors. you could open a stack of tables from one pc. and your mouse jumps to the next monitor as it goes out of one monitor left to right.!
having alot of monitors like that must make you feel an evil villain in his lair muaw hahahahahahahaahahaha!
Shop around as you can can rakeback upto 60% on some networks. Those who play without a rakeback deal are simply throwing money away.
For those of you who don’t know, rakeback is exactly what it sounds like: Rake Back. When you are a part of a rakeback program offer, for every dollar of rake you pay the house, you get a percentage back, from 27% to 60%. Depending on how much you play, this can be a great deal of money. For light play, maybe a hundred or two a month, for heavy play it can run into the thousands. If you’re playing online poker without rakeback you’re leaving a lot of money on the table.
